Yes, My At Home MD can generally diagnose and prescribe treatment for ear infections, including writing prescriptions for:
- Antibiotics (if it’s a bacterial infection like acute otitis media)
- Pain relievers or anti-inflammatory drops
- Decongestants or antihistamines if congestion is contributing
✅ When It’s Appropriate for Telehealth:
Online doctors can help if:
- You are experiencing mild to moderate ear pain, pressure, reduced hearing, or drainage
- There’s no high fever (over 102°F), no severe swelling, or other complications
- You have access to a phone or computer with video (so they can assess visually). When you make your appointment with My At Home MD, an invitation to a video consultation with the doctor will be sent to you via email and/or text.
🚫 When You Should See a Doctor In Person:
- Severe symptoms: High fever, very intense pain, swelling behind the ear
- Recurring infections or fluid in the ear over weeks
- Children under 6 months (many providers require in-person exams at that age)
- Suspected eardrum rupture (signs: sudden relief of pain with fluid drainage)
How It Works:
- Book an appointment with My At Home MD
- Complete your intake forms including listing your symptoms. The doctor may want to examine your ear via the video consultation. Please be sure to take your temperature and other vital signs before your appointment and share those with the doctor.
- If needed, the doctor will send a prescription to your local pharmacy
